Overview

During the first phase of Pandemic in US, we got the project to create an application targeted for the elderly and those living in assisted care communities to get connect with doctors.

Problem

Doctors were too busy in operating covid patients and regular health related issues of elderly could not being addressed where as elderly were also being worried to visit the doctors.

How do we approached

Together with stakeholders and specialists of medical processes we empathised with the patients and immersed ourselves in their needs. We mapped a healthcare journey, which starts way before patients are checking-in into a hospital and ends a few steps after the medical appointment is over. It allowed us to clearly identify the opportunity areas to improve patients’ experience at EDMMD.

Process followed - Understanding the time constraint we followed simple process to Identify, Plan, Execute

Competitive Analysis

To seek what other people are currently doing in this regard, I did competive analysis, Here I studied and explored some of the best apps from this domain and did a comparison based on their features and reviews.

Manage multiple Account

Add vitals

Connect Doctors / patients

Log meals, set goals

Get Medicine prescriptions

Contact Alerts

Share with friends

Goal

For doctors, the goal is to create an app that is easy to integrate into their existing workflow, saves time, and helps them provide better care to their patients. The app should be designed with a focus on usability, allowing doctors to quickly and easily access patient data and communicate with patients between visits. The app should also be designed to help doctors manage administrative tasks more efficiently, reducing the amount of time spent on paperwork and documentation.

For elderly patients and those in assisted care communities in the United States is to create a user-centered, accessible, and intuitive application that can help them manage their health more effectively and proactively. The app should be designed with a focus on user needs, taking into consideration the specific challenges that elderly users may face, such as visual or motor impairments. The app should also be designed to help users easily understand their health data and provide clear feedback and notifications when changes are detected.

Experience and Design Strategy

Improve Intuitiveness

Simplify the Task Flow

Improve the System Information

Visually Appealing

Initial Concepts

Testing design concepts, At first we spend time in checking with 3 different options to check accessibility and usability

Watches

Smart watch can be used to keep regular check on health vitals with the help of Ai which can update it to admin portal

Chatbot

A chatbot to keep elderly patients in contact with doctors. It can reinforce positive habit formation through rewards

Mobile app

To access your appointments, vitals, manage medications and other personal data all with in one app.

We evaluated all of our initial concepts considering our users' core needs, and moved forward with Mobile app for patients and dashboard for doctors. I conduct show-and-tell activities ahead of sprints to introduce concepts to team members so that, when development is ready to begin, the team has the designs that they need.

Testing + redesign (Elderly mobile application)

Easy Profile

Based on feedback, simplified flow for letting users to onboard and create profile and select reliable doctors. Users can add emergency contacts, alerts messages will be send to the emergency contact in case of emergency.

Navigation

As per feedback removed the bottom navigation letting user naturally flow to other parts of app seemed to be a better fit.

Book Appointment and Last Prescriptions

By default User will concern his primary or secondary doctors which user believes reliable and if user feels he need other opinion user can also connect other doctors available on the app.

Testing + redesign (Doctor's application)

Enroll Patients

As per feedback, made changes so that doctor or admin staff can also enroll their regular patients and add their profile.
